For those of you who do not know what or who Sutton Events are, this is the briefest of resume's.
The Committee evolved some 15years ago, over several evenings &, several drinks in the Golden Cross. It's aim, to get villagers out & doing some fun things - raising money for village projects would be a spin-off.
Since that time, we have held Rounders competitions, Hockey Knockouts, Stool Ball ( a cross between cricket & rounders), It's a Washout (our alternative to it's a knockout), together with a few other regular events which I shall go into a little further detail.
Those of you who have lived in the village for several years will remember the Bonfire & Fireworks Night - this was an SEC event. Whilst costing a considerable sum of money to stage, together with a lot of man hours & personel involved - it was a tremendously rewarding evening, which was always superbly supported. At one time, we were the only recognised display (after the round table) promoted by the local tourist board! Alas, we have been unsuccessful in finding a field to stage the event in recent times - SO, can you help? Please let us know, it would be great to bring the event back.
Boxing Day 5-a-side Football - who in their right mind wants to play football on Boxing Day?? Generally speaking, about 10 teams! From 5year olds to 50+, from keen lad's to those out to have fun. And it isn't just the guys - we have had girls teams! This event is now written into Sutton Tradition - very much like the Curry back at the Golden Cross later that day - it is always made by a villager!
Sutton Events was born out of people wanting to have fun. It also went further, drawing on the help of villagers from all fields of expertise &, from other groups already existing within the village. In return, the Committee have been able to build funds up to help other groups within the village, when needed - most recently funding the purchase of the Fridge/freezer for our fantastic new Village Hall Kitchen.
Like all Groups - we need new blood - do you want to get involved? do you have an idea for an event? Don't sit back & wait for things to happen - make them happen - contact us soon!..
